Applied Drilling Engineering
By Martin E. Chenevert
PetroPAC, Applied Drilling Engineering software, consists of 57 typical drilling programs divided into 5 categories: Cementing, Drilling Fluids, Drilling Hydraulics, Rotary Bits and Well Control. Each of these 57 typical drilling programs comes complete with example applications in a Visual Basic environment. Each example provides a typical problem application for the program complete with step-by-step calculations and a reference for obtaining information on equation derivation and assumptions made. At the bottom of each example a reference is given to the section of the Society of Petroleum Engineering (SPE) textbook Applied Drilling Engineering Textbook Vol.2 by A.T. Bourgoyne Jr., K.K. Millheim, M.E. Chenevert, and F.S. Young SPE, 1991 which contains specific information on the assumptions, and development of the equations used.
- Evaluate drilling fluids;
- Figure drilling fluids' circulation rates and loses;
- Determine cementing requirements;
- Analyze well-control needs;
- Calculate kick tolerances
- Examine wear on bit components, bit nozzle components;
- Examine rock properties.
